Oakland Hills Remodel

Working within the existing structure and employing an array of green building practices, this project was awarded a 2010 Chrysalis Award for Remodeling Excellence for Best Green Remodeling over $250,000.

Built to replace a home destroyed in a 1991 fire, new owners found the home to be poorly constructed, dark, and disconnected from its setting. The renovation reconfigured rooms, repositioned hallways, and relocated doors and windows to focus on views. The entry was moved from a dark ground-floor passage, to a light-filled stairwell connecting all floors. New skylights, translucent glass door panels, and transom windows share light between rooms.
