Orinda Ranch

This East Bay ranch house had a volcanic rock roof and plywood siding, and was in dire need of renovation. The main living spaces were demolished, and a new kitchen, dining room, family room, master suite, office, and guest bath were designed and built from the ground up to tie in with the preserved bedroom wing. Industrial barn lights, large windows, an exposed steel moment frame, painted shiplap siding, and a standing seam metal roof give the home an industrial modern feel.

Orange double doors mark the entry, which is visible from the corner kitchen window. An exposed steel moment frame allows for an open kitchen/dining space, while providing a sense of separation and seismic support. Double sliding glass doors connect the dining room to the new deck, creek, and redwood trees outside.
